Information about this partner:
Póvoa de Varzim is a seaside town in the north of Portugal. In Summer, it welcomes thousands of tourists attracted by its awesome beaches and typical food, especially Spanish people, since we are only 45 minutes away from the border with Spain. It is very close to large cities such as Porto, Guimarães or Braga and 25 km from an international airport. Both on the inside and seaside pilgrims walk, all year round, along the paths of St. James, bringing faith, visibility and popularity to Póvoa de Varzim.
Traditionally, population worked in agriculture and fishing but also in small textile factories; adults qualifications were quite low. However, nowadays, younger generations tend to have big modern greenhouses to cultivate all year round and study to get “better” jobs. Tourism and commerce are major areas of employability.
